Statement of Faith

What We Believe

1. Scripture

We believe that the Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are inerrant as originally given, verbally inspired to be the Word of God to mankind, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of all people, and the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; John 17:17; Hebrews 4:12)

2. Trinity

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; not confounding the Persons, nor dividing the Essence; eternal in being, identical in nature, equal in power and glory. (Genesis 1; Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Peter 1:1-2; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Acts 5:3; Matthew 28:18-19; John 10:22-39)

3. Person of Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God and the exact representation of God’s being, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully man. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:1-2; 10:22-39; Luke 1:34-38; Philippians 2:6-11; Colossians 1:15-20)

4. Person of the Holy Spirit

We believe in the Person of the Holy Spirit, whose ministry is to glorify Jesus Christ, to convict the world of sin, to make clear the things of God, to regenerate the believing sinner, to give life, to indwell, guide, instruct, sanctify, fill and empower the believer for godly living and service, to give gifts to each believer as determined, and that, upon conversion, we are baptized by one Spirit into one Body. (John 6:63; 14:16-17; 15:26; 16:7-16; Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 2:11-16; 6:11; 12:1-30; Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:1-16; 5:18)

5. Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God, sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical but spiritual death; that each person is born with a sinful nature, utterly lost and depraved, incapable of turning to God for salvation apart from God’s grace. (Genesis 1:26-27; 3:19; Psalms 51:5; John 6:65; Romans 3:23; 5:12-21; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-3; Titus 3:3)

6. Work of Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins as the atoning and propitiatory sacrifice, subsequently resurrected bodily and personally, according to the Scriptures, ascended into heaven, and is currently sitting at the right hand of the Father, where He acts as High Priest and Advocate for the believer. (1 John 2:1-2; 1 Corinthians 15:1-11; Ephesians 1:20-23; Romans 3:19-26; Acts 1:1-11; Hebrews 7:11-28)

7. Salvation

We believe that the shed blood of Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation, and that only those who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God. (John 1:12-13; 3:3-8; 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 8:12-17; 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 1:7; 2:4-10; Colossians 1:13-14; Titus 3:4-7; 1 Peter 1:18-21)

8. Church

We believe that the church is commissioned by God to shed the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ to all the earth, to reach the lost, disciple believers, and become a mature Body of Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:1-16; Romans 10:11-15; 2 Corinthians 5:11-20; 2 Timothy 2:1-10; Hebrews 10:19-39)

9. Ordinances

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ gave two ordinances to the Church: 1. The baptism of the believer upon repentance and confession of faith in Jesus Christ, by immersion in water, signifying His death, burial and resurrection, administered in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-11; 1 Peter 3:20b-22) 2. The Lord’s Supper as an act of obedience, whereby those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior participate in the remembrance of the broken body, shed blood and covenant of Jesus Christ, in the anticipation of His Second Coming, through the elements of the bread and the cup. (Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-27)

10. Satan

We believe in the personality of Satan and other evil spirit beings, who are the enemies of God, constantly engaged in spiritual warfare against God, the believer, and the holy angels. (Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:11-19; Daniel 10:12-21; 2 Corinthians 4:3-4; 11:13-15; Revelation 12; 20:7-10; Ephesians 6:10-20; 1 Peter 5:8-9)

11. Return of Jesus Christ

We believe in the Lord’s imminent return, which will be personal, bodily, visible, unexpected, and glorious – the ‘blessed hope’ which motivates the believer’s personal life and service. (John 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58; 1 Thessalonians 3:13; 4:13-18; Titus 2:11-14)

12. Last Things

We believe that at death all people continue in conscious existence, awaiting the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the saved to everlasting blessedness, and the lost to everlasting conscious torment. (Luke 16:19-31; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10; 2 Peter 2:4-9; Revelation 20-21)
